Birmingham is proud to be birthplace of the country’s first Veterans Day parade in 1947, founded by Birmingham WWI veteran Raymond Weeks. His efforts led to the establishment of the national Veterans Day holiday in 1954, honoring all who have served. For 80 years, Birmingham has upheld this legacy with the National Veterans Day Parade and the National Veterans Day Awards Dinner.
